Sultan Mountains

Why would a mountain be called “sultan”? Perhaps because a sultan’s road once passed that way, or perhaps because it looks down on the plains at its feet like a ruler… We don’t know the origin of the name for certain; but seeing from Akşehir that long limestone ridge closing off the horizon from end to end, you have to admit it is worthy of the name.
