Cappadocia

Why would a land be called “the land of beautiful horses”? The name Cappadocia is said to come from the Old Persian “Katpatuka”, a word meaning “land of beautiful horses”. Linguists are not so sure of this reading; but anyone who has looked even once upon the valleys of Göreme at sunrise soon realizes that what the name means hardly matters… For this land, whatever name you give it, always stands a little beyond that name.
