Imagine three universities opening in one city in the same year… Something that would astonish us even today happened in Sivas in 1271. In that single year the Gök Medrese, the Çifte Minareli Medrese and the Buruciye Medrese rose; all three with the finest stonework of their day, all three devoted to learning… But why had one city earned such great generosity?
