According to Evliya Çelebi, in the reign of Murad IV, Hezarfen Ahmed Çelebi took off from the Galata Tower with contraptions resembling eagle’s wings, crossed the Bosphorus and landed in Üsküdar. Did this flight really happen, or was it a product of Evliya’s famous imagination? Historians still argue about it… But one thing is certain: humanity’s dream of flying like a bird has never faded.
