Can you imagine a journey on which birds show people the way? According to a belief told in Birecik, each year when migration time came, the bald ibises would show pilgrims the road to Mecca, and in spring they would return bearing the pilgrims’ greetings… That is why, for centuries, the people of Birecik have hosted these odd-looking, bald-headed birds like guests, and their return is greeted like a holiday.
