Harbiye Waterfalls

In the ‘Metamorphoses’, Ovid tells how Daphne, fleeing from Apollo, is turned into a laurel tree as she runs. Robbed of hope, Apollo embraces the tree and says, “Since you cannot be my bride, you shall at least be my tree.” From that day on, the laurel became Apollo’s sacred tree… So where did this chase take place? For centuries the people of Antakya said they knew the answer: Daphne, today’s Harbiye.
