Imagine someone working hundreds of meters underground, in a world a few steps wide, lit only by the lamp on their head. Above: the sea, the sky, the gulls; below: darkness, dust, and a sun hidden inside a black stone… For coal is what forests that lived millions of years ago became, patiently pressed underground until they turned to stone; and so it holds the light of a very ancient sun. So who first found this black sun?
