Muş & Mount Kurtik

“There’s no cloud in the sky, what is this smoke? / No one has died in the quarter, what is this wailing?…” This folk song, a lament for the soldiers who went to Yemen and never returned, is sung in the Muş region. Its lines, which leave a lump in every listener’s throat, tell how deeply the people of this plain know separation. So why does a plain carrying so much sorrow bloom so colorfully in spring?
