Enez & Lake Gala

According to Greek mythology, after losing his beloved Eurydice a second time, the legendary bard Orpheus is so grief-stricken that he no longer wishes to sing for anyone. The enraged Thracian women tear him to pieces and cast his head into the river Hebrus. But the story doesn’t end there… It is said that even as it drifted down the river, Orpheus’s head kept on singing; it was carried from the river’s mouth to the sea, and from there to Lesbos. That Hebrus is the river we now call the Meriç.
