Kıyıköy

In his ‘Anabasis’, describing the journey of the Ten Thousand along the coast of Thrace on their way back from Persian lands, Xenophon mentions a place called Salmydessus. Here the sea is shallow and many ships run aground in storms; the Thracians living on the coast had divided the shore among themselves with boundary stones, and each gathered the wreckage washed up on his own stretch… So where was this Salmydessus? According to many historians, on the coast where Kıyıköy stands today.
