Kırşehir & Cacabey

“No one would look upon the Turkish tongue / No heart was ever drawn to the Turks,” says Âşık Paşa in his Garipnâme, written in the fourteenth century. In other words, no one cared for Turkish, no one gave their heart to the Turks… Could the poet who voiced this complaint have guessed that the language would one day become one of Anatolia’s most powerful voices? Perhaps he could; for the city he lived in, Kırşehir, was one of the places where that voice would echo most strongly.
