Alahan Monastery

Where does a person go to turn their back on the world? Some go to the desert, some to an island, some to a mountainside… In the 5th century AD, a group of monks found their answer in the heart of the Taurus, on a steep slope looking down on the Göksu Valley from a height of twelve hundred meters. And there they built a monastery suspended between the sky and the valley: Alahan.
