Legend has it that when Byzas of Megara consulted the oracle at Delphi before setting out to find a new home, he received the answer: “Settle opposite the land of the blind.” When he reached the historic peninsula and saw the city on the opposite shore, he solved the prophecy: only the blind could have overlooked so beautiful a peninsula and settled across from it! That opposite shore was Chalcedon, today’s Kadıköy… But were they really blind?
