Mount Ağrı

“And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat.” This brief line from the Torah’s Book of Genesis carries perhaps the heaviest story humanity ever laid upon a mountain. Though the Qur’an names Cudi as the ark’s resting place, in the tongue of the people the ark has waited for centuries on the shoulder of a single mountain: Ağrı… So how does one mountain bear the weight of a whole flood? Perhaps the answer lies in the silent awe on the faces of those who gaze at it from afar.
