Imagine a crag: on its face, the relief of an Assyrian king; at its foot, tombs dedicated to prophets; and below, the Tigris, which once roared along and has now become a lake… Eğil, north of Diyarbakır, is a small district that has piled the layers of history onto a single crag. So how do so many ages fit into so narrow a place?
