Lake Köyceğiz

Do trees weep? Look at the forests on the shores of Lake Köyceğiz and saying “yes” isn’t hard at all… For here live the sweetgum trees that grow almost nowhere but southwestern Anatolia; when their trunks are scored, a dark, fragrant resin oozes out drop by drop. Locals call this resin günlük; the scent it gives off when burned has been used for centuries in incense, ointments and medicines.
