Strabo tells how the priestesses of the temple of Artemis Perasia at Kastabala walked barefoot over burning coals without their feet ever being burned… A miracle, a skill, or just a good story? We wouldn’t exactly recommend trying it today; but it isn’t hard to see why this temple once drew pilgrims from distant lands.
