Can a castle be kneaded with milk? Ask this in Harput and they will smile and tell you the story of the Milk Castle… Legend has it that when the castle was being built, a great drought gripped the region; with no water to be found, the mortar was mixed with milk brought by the townspeople. The castle’s name comes from this generosity. Whether it is true, no one knows; but it would hardly be fair to question so sweet a legend.
