Aydın & Tralleis

“While you live, shine; have no grief at all; life exists only for a short while, and time demands its toll.” These lines are the words of the oldest song to have survived complete to this day. Carved with its musical notation on a gravestone by a man named Seikilos, the song was found in 1883 near Aydın, on the lands of ancient Tralleis… So the oldest known complete song in the world once rose from these slopes overlooking the plain of the Büyük Menderes.
