Hoşap Castle

Hoşap… When you first hear the name it may sound like a joke; yet the word is the Persian “hoş âb”, beautiful water. Indeed, the Turkish name of the stream flowing at the foot of the castle means exactly that: Güzelsu. So why would such a harsh, such a mighty castle be built on the bank of a beautiful water?
