What does it take for a plain to find its voice? Perhaps a folk song, perhaps an epic, perhaps a child born on that plain… In 1923, in a corner of this plain, in the village of Hemite in what is today Osmaniye’s Kadirli district, a child was born. His name was Kemal Sadık Gökçeli; the world would come to know him as Yaşar Kemal.
