Hakkari & Mount Sümbül

In Ferit Edgü’s novel, later known as ‘A Season in Hakkari’, a teacher spends a winter in a remote village among the mountains. Snow, solitude, mountains and people… Edgü’s spare, short sentences seem written in the mountains’ own voice; readers of the novel feel the weight of those mountains on their shoulders without ever having seen Hakkari. So how is a city built in the midst of such mountains?
